The First Truth

Different isn’t broken.

Different Isn’t Broken is the first book in the TISM-ISM series.

You were never behind.
Never defective.
Never too much.

Just navigating a world that wasn’t built with your operating system in mind.

A Note to the Reader

If you’re holding this book, chances are you didn’t stumble across it by accident.

Most people don’t go looking for something like this unless they’ve spent a good chunk of their lives wondering why everything seems to take more effort for them than it does for everyone else. Why simple things feel complicated. Why fitting in always came with instructions you never received — or a cost you paid anyway.

Let’s get a few things out of the way right now.

Neurodivergence is woven into these pages — something I’ve lived with long before I had language for it.

This book is not here to diagnose you.
It’s not here to fix you.
And it’s definitely not here to hand you a shiny new personality upgrade.

You are not a project.

This book exists because a lot of smart, sensitive, capable humans were taught — explicitly or otherwise — that adapting was the same thing as being who they are. That survival skills were personality traits. That exhaustion meant failure instead of effort.

Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

You don’t need to read this quickly.
You don’t need to agree with everything.
You don’t need to nod politely at pages that don’t feel true just to be a good reader.

If something lands — notice it.
If something doesn’t — leave it on the page.
No gold stars are awarded for forcing resonance.

This series isn’t about changing you into someone more palatable, productive, or easy to understand.
It’s about untangling what you learned to do from who you actually are — without shame, without urgency, and without pretending this was ever your fault.

Read slowly. Skip ahead. Put the book down when your nervous system asks you to.
You don’t owe this book anything.

And if this book found you when it did —
yeah… there’s probably a reason.

This book isn’t here to tell you who you are — only to quietly dismantle a story that never belonged to you.

What This Book Is (And Isn’t)

This book is not about fixing you.

It’s about understanding yourself.

It’s about recognizing the patterns that shaped you —
and deciding which ones still belong.

It’s about seeing clearly.

Not to blame.
Not to label.
But to reclaim.

This book invites you to examine the lens you’ve been looking through —
and gently replace it with one that reflects truth.

What You’ll Walk Away With

You’ll begin to:

• Understand your wiring instead of fighting it
• Release shame you didn’t know you were carrying
• Recognize how masking shaped your identity
• Reclaim clarity about who you actually are

No hype.
No dramatic claims.

Just steady transformation.
