Are You Taking Care if Yourself?

There are 5 dire consequences when you neglect self-care!

In our modern world, it is easy to let self-care fall by the wayside. We assume that we just don’t have the time to get it done. Between working, helping the kids with schools and their activities, keeping the home clean, paying bills, and handling other issues as they arise, we feel worn down and ready to crawl into bed by the end of the day.

Self-care is so important for helping us be the best versions of ourselves possible. We may try to cut it out when times get busy, but according to PsychCentral.com, it can help improve our mood, keeps us energized, and makes us better parents and friends to those around us.

There are a few consequences that will happen when we decide to forgo self-care and put it off for too long. We may not feel these consequences right away, but a lack of self-care can be detrimental to our health and the health of those around us. Some of the major consequences that happen when we a lack self-care include:

Low Energy

Self-care is a great way for you to take a break and recharge when your energy is low. If you go too long without some of this important self-care, it can start to drain you out and make you feel miserable. The next time that your energy stores are low and you can’t seem to take in enough caffeine to help, it may be time to consider whether you should do some self-care to help.

Less Patience

It is hard to have patience when we feel like we give our all to everyone around us. When people keep taking and nothing is put back in, we will start to lose our cool and snap at others. No one wants to snap at their children or their spouse, but a lack of self-care can drive you to act that way.

Physical Pains

Some people will experience some physical pains as a sign of their burnout when they don’t practice self-care. They may have lots of headaches, stomach aches, and other physical symptoms of stress. If they don’t stop and take care of these problems, they will just get worse and the individual may get sick.

Strains on Relationships

When you are feeling stressed out and on edge, because you never get a moment to yourself, it is hard to work on your relationships. You will snip at others and perhaps be meaner than you had intended, which will hurt those around you and can put a strain on them as well. This can include your relationships with your children, your friends, your parents, and even your spouse. Taking a break and having some time for self-care can make a difference.

Less Motivation

When we are worn out and tired, it is hard to feel motivated to get stuff done. We may not go out of the house or engage in other social activities when they come up. We may even find it difficult to do well at work or school. Taking a few minutes to ourselves can be the key we need to finally find that motivation again and feel better. When motivation is low, it is time to take that break for self-care.

Self-care is often the first thing we put on the back burner when we have a full schedule and not enough time to get it done. By finding time to do something good for ourselves, even if it takes a few minutes away from our responsibilities, we will feel better and can then help others out more than before.

YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN YOUR LIFE!!! MAKE THE TIME TO TAKE OF YOURSELF!!!

Your phone does not run on an empty batter and neither can you. Find ways to to take care of yourself. Take a walk. Take a bath. Read a book. Meditate. Go for yoga. The possibilities are endless and most of them do not require a lot of time.

Make yourself and your self-care a priority! Only when your battery is full can you give to others. Give yourself permission. If you can’t do that, well, you have my permission to put your self-care first.
